About Our Bats
Each MDS wood baseball bat is hand made of pro quality hard maple or birch, from split billets made to MLB standards. You can design, and customize your own baseball bat or fungo as well! MDS Baseball Bats prides itself on delivering only professional quality wood baseball bats to every customer! Our unique bat profiles are setting new standards as the ones other manufactures are trying to copy!
Each billet is hand made, selected and weighed for the proper profile prior to being ready for cutting. The baseball bat is individually turned on a hydraulic lathe and hand sanded before removing for finishing. Every baseball bat and fungo goes through quality control to check for any defects. The wood bat is spray painted (not dipped) with premium finishes and hand sanded between each coat. After the baseball bat is finished drying, logos and striping are applied by hand. Personalized or team engraving can then be added at your request.
Each wood baseball bat and fungo is weighed and cupped to achieve the desired weight. Our high quality adult wood bats are designed for a -3 weight differential within +/- 1 ounce and our fungos are -10 to -14. While these are our standard differentials we can also customize weights. The MDS model number is laser engraved on the barrel end. All professional bats are ink dropped and logged by number as well as the logo placed on the face grain as per MLB baseball bat regulations. All of our adult wood baseball bats meet all Major League Baseball bat quality regulations. No matter your level of play, we believe every customer deserves professional quality!
Materials

Maple
Maple itself is a very hard, dense wood and a majority of maple
wood bats are made from rock maple or sugar maple. The surface hardness
is 15% to 25% greater than that of Ash Wood Bats. This results in a
bat that has a high level of durability and is the reason it has become
so popular. Maple is a tight grained hardwood and ash is not. The
tight grain makes the grain of the bat is more difficult to see as
compared to the very visible grains of the As Wood Bat. These tight
grains prevent the wood from flaking or separating resulting in a
tougher and more durable bat. This hardness also leads to a very high
rebound effect in terms of the reaction of the baseball off of the bat
upon contact. The negative to these bats are that they tend to lack
flexibility and it leads to splintering or flying apart upon breaking.
These bats are very good for games and practice.
Birch
Birch itself is a very hard and flexible wood, and a majority of
birch wood bats are made from northern yellow birch. The surface
hardness is 15% to 25% greater than that of Ash Wood Bats and is much
more flexible than Maple Wood Bats. This results in a bat that has a
high level of durability and also a high level of flexibility and is the
reason it is on the rise as the most up and coming in wood bats. Birch
is a slightly wider grained wood than maple and more tightly grained
than the ash. The birch wood provides a flexible and tougher, more
durable bat. This unique combination of flexibility and hardness leads
to a very high trampoline effect due to the flexibility and rebound
effect due to the hardness in terms of the reaction of the baseball off
of the bat upon contact. One of the additional aspects of these bats
are that the increased flexibility leads to less likely splintering or
flying apart upon breaking. These bats are very good for games and
practice.

Bats

Fungo
The Model 355 (35-1/2”) and 340 (34”) are the two MDS fungo bats.
MDS fungo bats are unique to the industry and are designed to provide
the lighter weight as desired by most coaches while providing the
durability that other makes of fungo bats do not. The uniqueness is
that all are made of durable hard Maple or Birch with a 2-1/4 inch
diameter by 8 inch long barrel.
MDS 248 - Balanced Bat
The model 248 is once again unique to MDS, but does resemble the
271 Model. It is considered a balanced bat. The bat has a 2 inch long
barrel before a taper to the handle begins. This bat is preferred by
high average, single and double type hitters.
MDS 250 - Mid Load Bat
The model 250 is also a unique profile that creates a feel for
the hitter that is considered somewhere between and end loaded and
balanced condition. The bat has a 4 inch long barrel before the taper
to where the handle begins. This bat is preferred by gap to gap hitters
that hit for power.
MDS 348 - End Load Bat
The model 348 is a unique profile, as are all of our models, that
creates a feel for the hitter that is considered end loaded. The bats
signature is the 8 inch long barrel before a taper to the handle
begins. This bat is preferred by stronger players that hit for power.
MDS Youth Bat
The MDS Youth Bats are all basically a smaller, lighter version
of the Model 248. It is considered a balanced bat. The bat has a 2 inch
long barrel before a taper to the handle begins.
